Whilst I was serching for my Silver Duke of Edinbrough 6 month voluntering course, I came across EDUKID’s website. I immediately realised that this was an accessible, trustworthy and surportive progame from which I could educate myself and others about the challenges faced by children across the world to access basic rights like education. EDUKID has a 24 week structured booklet wich clearly instructs how to organise three sucsesfull fundraisers alongside tasks focusing on International developments. This was very useful so you don’t feel overwhelemd by managing time and fundraisers. From this experience I have learnt how to communicate and perform fundraisers and have gained new knowledge on humanitarian studies and sociology wich are fields I hope to work in the future.
The goal I raised donations for was inclusive education which supports EDUKID’s education programme for children with special educational needs and diverse abilities. I have learnt that education is the key to progress out of poverty and is a basic right wich is unfortunatly overlooked. It is estimated that over 84 million children will be without school by 2030 and that for every one country there are six wich will not achieve school targets by 2030. In addition the pace of education is rapidly slowing meaning more children have less opportunities. From this experience I have become more grateful for everything I have in my life and appreciate my education greatly.
Over six months I raised £535 in donations wich go directly towards EDUKID’s programes across the world. Now one year of inclusive education is available alongside support for EDUKID’s own education programme. For my first fundraiser, I did a car wash for my neighbours in return for them to contribute to my just giving page where I added pictured evidence and information about the causes. I found it a simple and trusting website to navigate and one wich people felt comfortable transfering donations through. For the second, I had a bake sale for my other neighbours who I didn’t already ask. I delivered vegan cookies and cupcakes wich i advertised on the groupchats between the neighbours and by creating a poster. Thirdly, I climbed a sponsored hike up the higest point in South Wales and asked my family members to contribute donations which I enjoyed. From all of these fundraisers I felt like I made a positive impact. After each fundraiser I updated all the people who kindly donated to thank and inform them. I would recomend communicating with people through groupchats online, asking a different group of people each fundraiser and choosing projects you are enthusiatic about as it makes it even more fulfilling.
If you are considering voluntering with EDUKID I would highly recomend this life changing experience. In this world it is too easy to turn a blind eye and think that you can’t make an impact- what I have taken from this experience is that everyone is capable of making an impact to improve the lives of children across the world.
Thankyou EDUKID. 🙂
