I chose the Edukid volunteering course because I feel passionately that no one should be deprived of an education no matter their financial state or whether they come from poverty, conflict or any background.
I raised money for the Inclusive Education project in Uganda. this project provides educational support for a child with academic needs and diverse abilities.
Over six months I raised £713.98. This is enough to fund 5 inclusive education programs and a small amount spare to put towards another project.
For me, I think the main challenge was making sure the events were organised properly to ensure the people who came to support me enjoyed themselves as well as me making money to donate to Edukid.
I think the two main highlights were my quiz night (fundraiser two) because it was a super fun evening and we also raised a lot of money. the second highlight for me was the sense of achievement when I met my original target and realised the impact this would have.
Over the course, I have learned how much attention to detail and organisation an event takes and it made me appreciate everyone who does this on a regular basis as it is not an easy task!
If you are looking at this now and are considering following one of the Edukid Duke of Edinburgh volunteering courses, the only thing I can say is don’t hesitate and go for it – you never know what kind of a change you can make in your community or in another community abroad.

Well done to you Anya! A fantastic achievement raising such an incredible amount of money to support Edukid’s inclusive education programme. This will have a huge impact on the lives of the young people we support and will help to break the cycle of poverty by providing them with an education. We appreciate all of your efforts to plan your events and we’re so pleased to hear how much you got out of your volunteering too! Thank you Anya!
