I began my journey with Edukid for my Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering Section, and I must say, from then on I’ve felt that I can inspire change, not just locally, but as Edukid has opened my eyes to – in other parts of the world. I aspired to raise both money to support my cause in Uganda financially, but also to raise awareness of the social barrier in the country that separates children because of additional learning requirements. My fundraiser raised around £150 to support Inclusive Education – thanks to the bridge Edukid forms, I’ve raised enough to facilitate a child with learning needs in school for a term! I chose this cause because I feel passionately about degrading divisions between the different needs of children, especially on a scholarly basis; education can shape people, and provide the opportunity to follow your own path.
My fundraiser encompassed a five kilometer fun run, alongside my dog, with bright outfits to raise awareness of the cause and what the donations would do to benefit children in Uganda, like Lucky Peace and his story. I also created a flyer before the event to further raise awareness and invite as many people as possible to come and to donate.
Through this journey with Edukid, I feel I have developed a thorough understanding of how change can be made to support anyone, anywhere. I have also learnt how this change can benefit regions in any place in the world to deteriorate the segregation of inequality, especially on the basis of education.
I cannot overstate how much I would recommend starting a journey with Edukid – who knows how far you, and those who you help, will go?
