The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Gold Residential

Who are Edukid?

Edukid is a charity that helps to remove the barriers to education faced by children living in acute poverty. We work with communities in Uganda, Cambodia and Peru and set up projects to support children throughout their education.

We also work with young people like you across the globe with the aim to educate you about the challenges other young people face and to explore your roles as Global Citizens with the power to make a difference. We want to show you that you can make a huge impact even within communities based overseas. You are a Global Citizen with the power to transform lives through relatively small actions.

Would you like to complete your Residential for DofE with Edukid?

Edukid is an Approved Activity Provider for The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award which recognises our Global Citizenship Residential Trips as an excellent opportunity for young people. Our trips comply with the requirements for the residential part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) award. Please see below for more details:

Duration: the duration of our trips vary from 7 to 14 days depending on the trip destination.

Daytime activities: Throughout the day, you will stay as a group, leaving the accommodation at 9am and returning at 5pm.

Evening activities: In the evening, you will stay as a group in your accommodation and the time will be spent eating and socialising together.

People: There will be a minimum of 10 people with you on the trip and groups can be as large as 40. To comply with the DofE requirements, you will be placed in a group with other people that you don’t know to take part. If you are booking this with a friend, this will only be accepted when the group is large enough to separate you for activities.

What’s involved with the trips?

Edukid trips offer you the opportunity to visit Uganda, Cambodia or Peru as part of your GOLD Residential Trips. These trips allow you to explore your role as global citizens, by visiting, interacting with, and learning from local communities and school students in our projects. During the trips will be able to immerse yourself into the heart of different cultures, exploring its rich culture and connecting with local children, families and communities. Throughout the trip, you will be visiting Edukid’s in-country partner schools and a range of activities will be available to you during your trip. Example activities will include:

• Connecting with students in the Edukid programme to carry out engaging activities, for example arts and crafts, observing lessons, sporting activities and much more!

• Visit the Edukid projects to learn about the global issues facing children, and learn how Edukid and their in-country team are making a positive impact. Project visits include: Tour of the girls dormitory, a water walk to see where and how students collect their water, a visit to the Edukid land to learn about sustainable agriculture and learn about the solar panel project which provides safe, and sustainable light for all students.
