DofE Volunteering with Edukid

Bake Sale for Cambodia

My first event was a bake sale outside a local garden near my house. I decided to bake and sell cookies to support small businesses in Cambodia. The community’s response was heartwarming, and I managed to raise £180. It was amazing to see how a simple idea could bring people together and make a difference.

Bingo Night + Raffle

I organized a Bingo Night and Raffle at my town hall. This event was aimed at supporting a term of education for a child in Peru. The event was filled with fun, laughter, and excitement as everyone participated in the games. By the end of the night, we raised £80. It was a rewarding experience to see the community come together and contribute to a great cause.

Dance-A-Thon at Light Centre

I hosted a Dance-A-Thon at a local yoga studio called Light Centre. This event was to raise money for six months of support for a child in Peru. The energy and enthusiasm of the participants were incredible. Dancing for a cause added an element of joy and fulfillment to the event, and we successfully raised £120.

Reflection

Through these events, I not only raised funds but also learned the importance of community involvement and the impact of collective effort. The support and encouragement from everyone around me were overwhelming and motivating.

I hope my journey inspires others to take initiative and support Edukid or any cause they are passionate about. Every small effort counts and can bring about significant change in the lives of children in need.

Thank you Yara! You have clearly worked so hard to raise money for young people in Cambodia and Peru and we are so grateful for all of your support. These events all sound fantastic and the money raised will make a huge impact. The awareness that you have raised will inspire others to support these communities too. A huge well done to you!
