LRA leader Joseph Kony

The LRA leader Joseph Kony who was responsible for of thousands of abductees and child soldiers, is now thought to be hiding somewhere near the border of Congo.
Ironically as Northern Uganda get’s used to peace, neighbouring countries are now experiencing war.  As Uganda is a land locked country it means food and materials are in short supply, and hunger is an everyday experience.

In Africa our work concentrates on Northern Uganda.

Up until 2008 the Lords Resistance army (LRA) fought a 21 year civil war with the Ugandan government.

80% of the poulation in Northern Uganda were internally displaced, many fleeing to Internal Displacement Camps.  Thousandsof children were abducted and foced to be child soldiers, or sexually abused.

Any person under 21 will never haver known peace until now.

An estimated 30% of children are believed to be orphans or have no family alive.  50% of the population is believed to be under 21 years old.

Schools in Northern Uganda do not just represent educaion, but also mentoring, boarding and food.  Education is seen by elders as building new leaders for the community.
John is a minister and head teacher to a primary school of 1500 pupils in Gulu, Northern Uganda. For 21 years he has lived through civil war trying to help children have an education.

He now co-ordinates all our work in Uganda.
