About Helping a Child:
Children in rural Cambodia face many problems when it comes to getting an education. Although schooling is officially free there are still many costs that have to be met. Poorly paid teachers, often expect to be compensated by their students. On top of this, uniforms, books, study papers and equipment must be bought. In the countryside where most of the population are involved in subsistence farming it is very tempting for parents to pull their children out of school to help with growing rice or looking after their younger siblings.
