Easter Bike Ride 2012 Itinerary

Dunkirk, Bruges, Holland

Day 1 – Dunkirk-Bruges-Ghent

Cycling distance – approx. 69 miles

Our ride starts on the famous beaches of Dunkirk. From there we make our way over the Belgium border to the historic town of Bruges. Known as The Venice of the North, Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and listed as a World Heritage Site. With it’s cobbled alleys and scenic canals you can easily imagine yourself in medieval times. From there we head towards Ghent with its large castle, cafes and traffic free town centre.

Day 2 – Rural Belgium

Cycling distance – approx. 78 miles
Following a hearty breakfast, we start cycling deep into the heart of Belgium – remembering to stay on the right! The roads are quiet and we travel through attractive small towns, and avoid the hustle and bustle of Brussels. No cities or big towns today just countryside and quaint villages.

Day 3 – Maastricht-Aachen

Cycling distance – approx. 65 miles
The final day and shortest ride of our journey, and by far the most exciting. A quick cycle over the border into Holland and then on into Maastricht. Famous for its Roman Fortress, music and culture it’s a town steeped in history and known as the European town of culture. From there we cross the border to Germany and then into Aachen. Our final town is set in the nature reserve of the Eifel and Ardennes and has beautiful historical architecture. If you get there early you might want to try the warm water springs – the perfect way to refresh those aching limbs!
Photographs taken and sights seen, we board our minibus for our return crossing.
