edukid believes in educating, and empowering young people in the UK to help others their age who live in poverty.
Laura (15yrs) from North Devon travelled to Cambodia to interview Soccum (18yrs)
Soccum lives in a very remote area of Cambodia, surrounded by miles of rice fields. It is a subsistance way of life, and agriculture is the only source of income in his area.
At the age of 4 yrs Soccum fell ill with a fever. Having little medical care and no money to pay for any, Soccum’s Uncle gave him the injection he gives his pigs when they become ill. This led to Soccum losing the use of his lower legs.
Education is now everything for Soccum - it is his only chance of finding work and looking after himself.

edukid has many more young people waiting to study, but no sponsors. If you would like to know more about sponsoring a student and helping them break out of poverty please contact christurner@edukid.org.uk or phone him on 07913611544. Sponsorship varies according to their course, but it can start from as little as the price of a coffee a day!
