SITHAI: Girl from a poor rural family.

Sithai is 16 years old and at High School. There are nine people in her family including 6 brothers and sisters.

Her parents grow rice, mainly for the family to eat, but if they are short of money they sometimes have to sell that too. They also grow mangoes and bananas and Sithai helps out too by sewing sequins onto dresses as many of the women in the village also do.

Last year Sithai received an edukid school pack which contained books, pens, a ruler, rubber, geometry set, compass, clothes and shoes.

"Before last year I didn't really want to study because I didn't have everything I needed. Lots of children feel the same. How can you go to school if you don't have shoes? Now I really want to study more. I want to study right to the end, but I don't know whether my parent will be able to let me do that yet. If I can finish school I'd like to do accounts for a big company."   More about Sithai
AUNTY RUTH: angel.

Ruth works for edukid's partner organisation in Cambodia (Care for Cambodia).

For a long time Ruth lived and worked in Phnom Penh but when her mother became ill she returned to her home village to care for her. They lived in a tiny shack made of banana leaf panels.

Believing passionately in education Ruth opened her home for the children in her village to come and receive extra lessons (school in Cambodia is only part time) as well as health care advice and games.

Ruth plays a valuable role for edukid registering the children that we help and keeping track of who is in school. It is only thanks to wonderful hearted people like Ruth and others at CFC that edukid can do what it does to help the children of Cambodia.  More about Aunty Ruth
